EMERGENCY COVID-19 RELIEF

DONATE NOW
Lavi Project could use your help. The Board of Directors has initiated an Emergency Covid19 Relief Fund to raise $10,000 as soon as possible.

There has been a new outbreak of Covid19 in Haiti, a rise in Covid19 related deaths, and an increase in territorial gang-related crime. Lavi Project wants to assist the communities we are partnered with in Haiti. Your gift at this critical time will help ease the suffering of disease, hunger and poverty. What amount can you give to help?

Have you ever watched a young child trying to share a story when they are so excited about what they are sharing that their hands are flying in the air, they can’t stand still, their face lights up and they just can’t seem to get their words out fast enough?

Well, that’s what it was like for the three Lavi Project team members when they came home from their scouting trip to Haiti in April (2021).  CEO Bob Bancroft, Lavi Project’s VP, R.C. Carrillo, and team leader Curtis Girginoff traveled to Haiti to assess how the country was doing and they came back very hopeful and excited. They were grateful to be able to tackle things that aren’t possible when there is a medical team on the ground with them.  Here are some of the tasks they were able to accomplish:

  • visit the large pharmacy in Haiti to assess availability and cost of medications required for the mobile clinics
  • inventory the storage depot that Lavi Project has in Haiti
  • bring some of the inventory to a new local hospital near the guesthouse
  • meet and connect with a local Haitian doctor who has a heart for his people and who works at the new hospital
  • hold a day long workshop for the translators Lavi Project hires for each clinic and give them additional training
  • research and visit commercial truck dealerships to get an idea of the cost of replacing the truck the team uses for their clinics which is no longer usable
  • visit the orphanage that Lavi Project is in partnership with
  • provide a day of fun and food for the children from the orphanage who had not left their compound in 16 months (a huge thank you to the Adams family for their generous donation to make this possible)

The team recognized that the Haitians were very grateful that their country had been spared from the large number of Covid19 cases that other countries had experienced. Yet, the Haitian proverb, “Dèyè mòn, gen mòn.” (“Beyond mountains, there are mountains.”), is a metaphor that means, “as you solve one problem, another will present itself”, has proven itself to be true once again.

Our contact on the ground called us at the beginning of June to share with us about the new outbreak of Covid19 in Haiti, the rise in Covid19 related deaths, and the increase in territorial gang related crime. The Board of Directors held the emergency meeting and agreed to send immediate relief funds to aid in the purchase of food and to cover the repair costs of the generator at the orphanage so that it is safe and well lit at night and so that the pumps for their drinking water and toilets are functioning. This will help, yet it will not cover all the need.

We are reaching out to those who have worked on teams and to those who have supported and learned about Lavi Project over the years. Lavi Project has initiated an Emergency Covid19 Relief Fund. Lavi Project is seeking to raise $10,000 in donations to fund emergency food, sanitation and personal protective equipment for the communities that we are partnered with in Haiti. Our hope is to move fast so we can make a difference in the spread of this disease and help our Haitian friends overcome this terrible battle. Can we count on you to make a donation ($10, $25, $50, $100)? Any level of contribution helps.

With thanks and gratitude,
Lavi Project Board of Directors
