The Children of Haiti are Paying the Price
May 4, 2022
Hello dear Sponsors,
I wish to greet you in the precious name of Jesus.
I also want to thank you for all of your support whether it is through prayers or donations.
It’s thanks to your generosity that we are able to do what we do. Also, I would like to give you an update on everything that has been going on in the orphanage during these past 4 months.
As many of you know, this past December our organization went through another big change. [Mission E4 withdrew their support of Bousol Timoun and the primary school. Our financial support and donations have since come together under a new partnership with Lavi Project.] This has been such a blessing and we are so grateful. This transition has also come at a very difficult time in Haitian history. We are facing difficulties to a degree we have never seen before and the children of Haiti are paying the price more than anyone. It is now more than ever that we want Bousol Timoun to continue on serving the Children of Haiti. Because of all these challenges and changes we have five major budget-related causes of concerns.
Current Monthly Budget in US dollars
Food, groceries, hygiene
$6,500
Employee Payroll
$4,500
School
$3,000
Maintenance and emergencies
$2,500
Security
$3,500
Security company debt
Our need for a security company came to be when we were attacked by bandits in the area in September of 2014. Under the order of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR), we were obliged to have security guards on the premises for the safety of the children. It was one of the main conditions in order for us to keep our operating permit because the children must feel protected both psychologically, emotionally, and physically. Our security company bill had always been paid by a very generous donor since September 2014. Unfortunately that sponsor is no longer able to help with this need.
As the country was deteriorating, the situation was getting more and more difficult. From October to December, Franceli and I did our best with the support of some friends to pay the company for the months of October through December at $3,500/mo. In December we asked the Company Administration to reduce the number of agents in Bousol because the amount had become too much for us to pay. They denied our request for the safety of their own staff as the rate of insecurity was very threatening in our area in Croix-des-Bouquets (kidnapping, killing, shooting, aggressions ... etc.). Given the protocol of the company and the vigilance that requires the service, they did not accept because their job was to protect us but also to protect its agents. After a bit of a fight, they adjusted our cost to $1,000/mo for 3 months(January-March).
Currently, we need to raise $11,000 to pay off the security company and get back into being debt free again. We will provide the receipts as attachments. We know that all of you are under a lot of pressure as well in the USA and we hate to ask this but we need your help at this time. These children need your help. We do not want to lose our license and see these children return to the streets. We want these children to be safe and well. I have attached a story of one of our children so that you can get a glimpse of what God is doing here.
Payroll debt
We had tried our best to maintain our resources as well as possible by using whatever we had left to start the payroll. We made sure to take care of our more urgent needs like stocking up on food and other pressing issues.
We managed to get the February payroll out of the way as we need these people to keep looking after and working with these children. It has become almost impossible for us to physically go to the orphanage, so having these live-in trusted adults capable of making decisions in stressful and scary situations is vital.
We now owe them two months (March and April), which is a total of US$ 9,000.
School Debt
We have continued to pay for school expenses the best that we can, but we have been behind. With final exams coming up we need 4,600$ to be able to get the receipt for the kids to take the exams.
MIRACLE GOAL: GOD WILL PROVIDE!
$24,600
Will He use YOU?
Rodens’ Story
We have a little boy who came to Bousol Timoun in 2019. He was only 8 years old but he had been a servant for a chief gang member named Izo. He had already experienced all sorts of horrible things that children should NEVER experience. His mother had tried to rescue him several times. One day she finally went to Chief Izo and told him that her son was sick and that she needed to take him to get some voodoo treatment. She said this because her family would be in danger if they knew she was trying to rescue him. She brought him straight to us here at Bousol Timoun. Now he has been here for 3 years. He goes to school. He is happy and he lives just like other children. He hears the gospel and lives in safety. He does not understand how much danger he was in before, but he remembers the gangs and he prays for them. Please help us today to keep this ministry open and to keep helping children like Rodens. Now more than ever they are taking children and putting them to work in gangs. We cannot allow that to happen to our children. They are the future of Haiti. We cannot do it without your support.
We know that it’s going to take a miracle, but our God is a miracle working God!
Psalm 24:1 says
“The Earth is the Lord’s and all it contains; the world and those who dwell in it.”
Love, Julie and Franceli Joseph and Bousol Timoun
